Yeah, looking at that stack up, I bet it gives balance problems.

On the 10", I put in a counterweight on the back. On the 24", no problem. The 24" is so heavy and so well balanced, that the only time I thread on a counterweight in the back is when the 9" f/3 finderscope isn't mounted.

At that point your astronomy chair is converted to a focuser support.

Yup. lol.gif lol.gif lol.gif

Oh that’s right! I forgot you have a 24”. Wouldn’t be bad on that. Just a tad iffy on the 10” tho! lol.

In the 10" and even in my 8", the ES92's with just the Paracorr 2 balance just fine. This is because both scopes have bearings the size of the mirror at the balance point, so they both balance really well.

It's only when I add the 2x PM to the equation, that a counterweight is needed.

An expansion of this line with a 2 inch design is exciting news from Tele Vue. The Delos line has been my sweet spot for TV eyepieces in terms of price, eye relief and AFOV. It's great to see these new products hitting the market from them!

Exactly and I'll add to that. When I buy a Delos I'm mostly buying it for it's transmission and throughput. Best in it's class in that department. (60-80º) For me anyhow.

I hope it continues that way. The price makes sense though, because it's still a 72º. A new 92º line with similar optics in the future would be a killer.

I wonder if a 25mm Morpheus is far behind? I’d get a pair if they can keep it under 63mm diameter.

Yeah Tay, that’s what I really like about the Orion XT8 Plus I have of today over the Orion SkyQuest XT8 I had in 2001, the tension system. Before it was a set tension via the two springs, one on each side. Now there is a nylon washer on the one tube-to-base attachment knob that is on the left side of the tube closest to the eyepiece and user. Now I can adjust tension as needed for heavier or lighter accessories and oculars. I also have one of the 1lb and 3lbs counterweights that were made by Orion that are felt lined and can magnetically slide up and down the tube to assist as needed. Definitely comes in useful when using a 1.75lb eyepiece + 2x Powermate.

This question would be great in its own topic. You may get a lot of answers and comparisons that you won't get in a topic solely about TV Delos. There may be Morpheus owners who may not read this topic. :)

It would be nice to have a near max FOV 2” Televue eyepiece that didn’t weigh 2+ pounds.

55mm TeleVue Plössl:  field stop diameter 46mm, weight 1.13 pounds

Death knell for the 22T4. Very close TFOV and exit pupils. Pass in any case, no Delos work for me. I hope a longer FL Delite, say a 25mm  https://m.youtube.co...h?v=85cL1HisrNc

I always think its mounts more than eyepieces are guilty of balance/stability issues. I have never had a Dob without big circular altitude bearings.

Best news for me is that Al was at NEAF. I couldn’t make it this year and missed the chance speaking with him again. For anyone that went to NEAF did you ask him who designed this new Delos and Nagler T7s? I’m assuming Al for the Naglers. But I believe Paul (RIP) did all the Delos line. Is this a holdover from one of Paul’s designs?

Still only 50 degree FOV. Many wish to keep the spacewalk feeling of an 82+ degree FOV.

THis is great!  24mm Delos is 18 ounces, 30mm XW is 26.  And no barrel cut!!!  My 30mm and 40mm XW's could be on the way out.  I hate the undercut on them, just from seeing the 24mm Delos smoothie I"m halfway to replacing them waytogo.gif waytogo.gif

Now TV should expand to even larger 2-inch Delos and retire the Panoptics.  The 35mm and 41mm are outclassed by the XW's IMO.  Why not take direct aim at Pentax and do a 30mm and 40mm Delos??  For me the smooth barrel changes everything, I use these as finder eyepieces and the cut is an abomination

I use Baader ClickLocks. So safety undercuts don't bother me at all. By the way, I have a 27mm Panoptic (with the latest coatings) that I use with Dioptrx; it's one of my favorite eyepieces that I won't sell. That's why I'm not interested in the 24mm Delos.

Mm.. maybe it's just me, but I don't follow why they didn't upgrade the optics of the Nagler 22mm T4 instead of coming up with this new 2" 24mm Delos.
I think a 22mm Delos in 1.25" mode would have been more attractive, although likely more difficult to design. Admittedly, it would have been in direct competition with the N22T4. Therefore, to me, upgrading the N22T4 was the way forward here.. it is also one of the most successful eyepieces made by TV, so no issue with profit.

Jon, it’s legit. Now a price and when exactly a release date?…that’s a whole different story.

I looked at it and held it in my hand at NEAF yesterday.  It's real. No price set yet.

Televue sent notification of an announcement at NEAF before 4/1…Televue announcement at NEAF after 4/1. Several retailers list the product as upcoming end of 2025, taking the labour to insert it into their website. Rather elaborate steps to take for a ‘ruse’.

Tele Vue has a new designer who works closely with the Naglers on new designs, for a couple years now.

'I’m at NEAF now. I had a lovely chat with Al Nagler and the Tele Vue crew. I was happy to see Al honored by the Astronomical League.

Yes, the 24 Delos was the surprise. I got to test it in the TV101. Goodness it is sharp to the edge! And it is comfortable to use."

"In one hand I have the Type 7 Naglers.  And in the other hand....

It's good to see TeleVue is still moving forward after Paul D's unfortunate passing.

A new 22mm Nagler would be, in comparison to the 24mm Delos:
Heavier
More expensive
Wider field (matters to some of us)
Possible, but unnecessary

2" is likely the minimum size for the Delos design if longer than 17.3mm. Otherwise, there would have been longer focal length 1.25" Delos.
Pentx went as long as 20mm but with some serious optical compromises. Baader couldn't go longer than 17.5mm and had to compromise with a reduced apparent field of 72°.
