I just found this video, the history of the ASTROSCAN.

 

Norm Sperling talks about the design, development and marketing 

of the ASTROSCAN.  Interesting to hear about the process and

some the optical details, yes most of the mirror were polished

to parabola, and some coated with extra AL. So there you have it.

Thank you for the opportunity to learn a little about the history and the story behind it. I still use my Astro Scan for sweeping the Milky Way and hunting clusters. Within its limits, it still a useful scope.

Very interesting history from someone with first hand knowledge. 

 

Norman Sperling appears to confirm something that I had assumed, but had no definite proof.  That is the 28mm RKE was designed for the Astroscan.
