Yes.

Televue, like every other company, are going up. They will continue going up due to manufacturing and materials used also. To what degree I don’t know. A lot depends on where exactly they purchase these materials.

Yes, Tele Vue had a price increase for all their eyepieces.

This was probably a planned price increase well before any tariffs were added.

If the baseline 10% tariff that's now still in effect remains, you might see ANOTHER price increase. If the 90 day pause ends and equipment from Taiwan goes back to 32% and Japan goes back to 24%, you'll definitely see another price increase.

$283 now + 24% (DeLites are made in Japan) would make a DeLite $351.

Ouch... I'm not so sure the Delite is a $351 eyepiece.

China is 145% friend.

I am thinking of buy another of those cheap GSO Dielectric diagonal, and another Skymax Mak just in case.

At least the things I bought are cheap the smaller aperature and cheap accessories. I feel so bad for the astrophotography people, it cost a fortune already (even without the hike tarriff).

I'm hoarding all the 6mm eyepieces that I can find right now, I'm Neptune and Uranus obsess, I need magnifications for them, 6mm you don't have alot of options out there, at least not the cheap ones.

I was eyeing the Delite 7mm but now I can't afford it anymore.

So you were considering spending $268 for a Delite, but now that it's risen $15 your dream of buying one is crushed?

Only billionaires can afford Televue in Australia:

21mm Ethos ............ $1930

31mm Nagler ........... $1510

Delos ....................... $850

Delite ....................... $600

32mm Plossl ............ $350

24mm Panoptic ....... $709

1.25" Powermate ..... $490

1.25" Barlow ............ $290

Paracorr .................. $1120

Some of these increases are in the order of $200-300 just from one day to the next.

Yikes and sympathies. I checked a few of those numbers and they are generally about twice the numbers for purchases in US dollars. Are the numbers you cited in US dollars or Australian dollars? I note that at present, one Australian dollar is about 0.62 US dollars, which may explain some of the difference.

Clear sky ...

Australian dollars. Plus there is 10% GST added when it lands on Australian shores. Then the dealer has to make some sort of profit on the sale. If we use a 31T5 Nagler as an example, $734US at Agena = $1175 AUD. It was actually around that price not that long ago. Adding the 10% GST brings to approx $1300.

The Australian peso is not worth the plastic it's printed on. We are back to the bad old days of late 90's early 2000's prices/exchange rates, and it all seemingly happened in the blink of an eye. I remember back around 2010 when the 31T5 was around $850AUD or something like that.

Other brands, like Baader and ES are still decently priced. A 30mm ES 82* is $550 AUD currently, and that's from a local dealer. A 30mm Sky Rover UFF can be had from AliExpress for well under $300 AUD. The ES is priced at $499US on Agena, which translates to over $800 AUD! I take that to be the tariff affecting ES stock among others already in the US.

I kinda agree. I don’t think a $15 difference price increase would make any gear in this hobby unobtainable. shrug.gif

Also consider that TV prices have been largely unchanged for years. These increases are not that big.

Wow, those prices for TV eyepieces in Australia are insanely high.  I don’t think I could afford or want to pay that much for most of them.

We don't know the particulars of MrsM75's situation. $15 could be the straw that broke the camel's back. Best not to prejudge, or make assumptions about others' financial mobility/flexibility.

Similarly, the Can dollar is worth about $0.70 of the U.S. (which means to buy one U.S. dollar worth of product, it's about a 1.47 multiplier, factoring in exchange fee).  So eyepieces prices are higher in Canada at around $1056.00 for a 31mm Nagler or $235.00 for a 32mm Plossl.  Now a 31mm Nagler is $734.00 in the U.S. so if you were to order one in, instead of buying domestically, it would cost you $1078 Can or a small amount higher than domestically at the moment.  But for those who remember the hyper-inflationary 1970s, prices advertised in magazines were never good for more than one month, you always had to call the retailer to confirm.  That's kind of what is happening now.  But some of the price increases have nothing to do with tariffs.  For example, camera film prices rose 30-40% in the last couple years due to inflationary pressures.

Thank you Sir.

Like I say, unlike ahem Mr. president "Ideal world", the reality is people buy what their pocket can afford, people has a family to feed too. It not just prices of eyepiece go up, it everything the cost of stuff in your daily life will go up too. And I just can't no longer can afford a $283 Delite. It probably going to go up more if keep it at the rate of 145% tariff.

Buy used.  Most people baby these costly eyepieces so there is no downside.

No we don't and maybe the comments could have been expressed differently.  Maybe not.  I think the point is that the increase is only $15 or 5.6%.  If that increase is a budget breaker for a person then the $268 was probably too much for their budget too.

There are lower cost options like the Astrotech Paradigms that give very good performance, similar eye relief, and a 60 deg AFOV.  If the $15 increase is a deal breaker then my advice would be to look at the Paradigms instead of the DeLite's.

I would also point out that, IIRC, the DeLite's were introduced at $250.  So in, about a decade, they have increased only 13% total.  Compared to the other price increases observed over the last few years - the TV eyepieces were due for an increase.

Don't forget to add sales tax for a total price and shipping cost too which is the only option in this neck of the woods since every store front/online shop has gone under in BC.....

Picked a Canadian dealer at random for TV current prices:

 Millionaires club pricing.....

"Millionaires club pricing" is serious hyperbole.  Whether or not a person can afford $635 USD for an eyepiece is going to depend upon a lot of factors: required monthly expenses and debt load vs. income.  If a person is living with a monthly expense and debt budget that is beyond the ability of their income to handle, then certainly the TeleVue eyepieces are not the best option.  You do not have to be a millionaire to afford these eyepieces.

I get that.  I'm on a pension too now - just retired in February.   I'll be saving for a 9mm T7 Nagler and the 24mm Delos.

Ouch... I'm not so sure the Delite is a $351 eyepiece.

Indeed. I love my Delos, but I don't think they are a $407 eyepiece. Ouch is right! Thank goodness for the used marketplace.
