Hi all. I wanted to share my 3D printed design to help with cable management especially with those with the original AM5 mounts. It looks ridiculous but it has helped me with avoiding cable snags and sleep better at night!

Its is basically a retractible cable chain mounted on the face of the body of the mount with cable routed to the back of the DEC plate. Gives you the freedom to run any combination of cables - I can just squeeze 4 different ones if I really try.

Apologies for the amateur design. The idea came to me and I had to teach myself fusion 360 to make it. The first model I tried to design with tinkercad and it was even more ugly!

I will upload the design for those interested as I get the chance. Here is a demo video showing the range that it will work in https://youtu.be/Rlb...LAfqeCk5czD86ha

You will need a 4 x M6 bolts to attach parts to the front of the dec mount to guide the cable chain and cable clips.

1 x M6 40mm bolt to attach the cable chain to the front of the dec mount part

Retractable bad spring loaded device to return the cable chain when returning to the home position.

Everything else can be 3d printed. Note for the cable chain - the first 8-10 pieces can stay unmodded and unidirectional and the other 8-10 pieces need to be bidirectional these are sections that need to wrap both ways around the dec pole.

I'm sure someone with actual design skill can modify this and improve it. If you do, please share it freely.

Cheers,

Pascal

Sorry mate, I appreciate the effort and design that has gone into this, but I think you're on the wrong path for cable management.

There are so many spots where this can (will) snag, not to mention the cable drag while guiding..

Proper cable management should be simple and clean, and use the natural cable twist to it's advantage.

This was my solution. A modified Face plate to allow you to tie your cables to it.

Hey Joshman - Thanks for sharing! Simpler is better for sure. I love it!

For those brave enough I have posted my files to printable - https://www.printabl...5-dec-cable-mod
