Hi all, I've been fortunate enough to be the right location with clear skies to capture some of the first images of Saturn "edge-on", where the rings are all but invisible. However, Saturn will remain pretty much ring-less for the rest of the year, FYI here's a graph showing the tilt angle as calculated by SkySafari.
My last capture of Saturn was on the 17th of April when the rings were at about 1.3o, and they were virtually invisible except when using extreme stretching of the image. Maybe they will be more visible in July when they reach their maximum tilt angle, but I don't know by how much.
In any event, there should be a number of good opportunities coming up through the year to view and image a ring-less Saturn, something that only happens every 15 years or so. Hopefully I'll be able to get a good image to add to my collection <insert gratuitous brag image here, click for full size >.
Good luck everyone!
Andrew
