My iPhone normally rests in an Otterbox case.  The case does not obstruct the phone’s camera lenses.

 

To make the Starsense Explorer work, can I leave the phone in the case, or must I remove it?

as long as the camera gets a good view in to the mirror, and fits in the mount, you dont have to remove it. the entire mount is there to hold the phone securely, and make sure the mirror is in as much of the field of view of the camera as possible.

So the real question is: Does your phone, in its case, fit in to the mount. Also can the camera be mostly centered and correctly positioned in regards to the mirror.

I've used the app in both an iphone11 and iphone15 pro max in otter box cases. Long as the camera can be centered on the mirror you're good to go.
