Thought I'd share my latest capture.  It's the first galaxy I've done since spring of last year, lots has changed in processing since then so I really had to spend some time going through new methods.  Open to constructive criticism's!

I was hoping to capture more of the galaxies 'halo' but no matter how much I stretched it just wasn't really there.  I was dealing with sub-par skies for the most part though so I'm guessing that is the main issue.  (it shows a bit better in a high res version)

Mine looks yellowy.  i thot it should be that way since it's a sunflower.  but i might have a white balance issue; have to take a look.  but wikipedia has an image; not yellowy but more beige.  i'm not saying yours (or mine) should look like theirs, but it is the HST.

Thanks for the input!  I was trying to keep some of the 'golden glow' from the center but may have overdone it...

it's what ever u like... it's art. it's hard to compete with HST; spitzer show reds; Galax (uv) show yellows & blues.

What software did you use to process the image?

EDIT

This is a good example of a M63 image.

I toned the 'yellow' down to more of a beige and I definitely like it better..

I used mostly Pixinsight with a touch of photoshop.

Yeah, that is a great M63!  Similar integration time to mine but you can see where the 10" F/4 mirror pulls away from my 5" F/7.  (Halo more apparent)

Trying to be constructive here:

Not picking on you specifically, but this happens all the time here in this forum:  someone posts an image that is quite often not really all that great and folks who seem to mostly live "here" might comment on it . Over in the lowly Beginners forum, the same object is the target for that month's Challenge and the accompanying discussion thread is where the real fun and learning goes on.

I am repeating a suggestion I have posted here in EDSI before:  think about joining the discussion group at least if your subject matches the monthly challenge object in BDSI.  You can either learn something, teach something or just share.

A matter of taste, but I find your colours are overcooked. And for 42 hours, you haven't got anywhere near the finer fainter structure you should have. Lots of ways to pulling that out, even some of the scripted stretches would be good starting points for more fine tuning with other more refined tools like curves or GHS or masked stretches. Or maybe just adjust your black point? I doubt sky conditions would take all the hit on that count. Care to share your raw stack to see if anyone can get more out of it or at least something different? That's where the fun is over in the Challenge.  This sort of discussion, to and fro goes on all the time. Join the party!

Hey Norm.  Thanks for the input.  I used to take part in the DSO challenges when there was a voting system in place but when that changed I drifted away as I lost what the point was.  That combined with the fact that I have very limited clear/decent sky's so I find I'm imaging what I want to image, not so much what a challenge target might be.  I also didn't realize that M63 was this month's target, and that there is what appears to be, discussion threads where engagement is higher.  I do think there might be something wrong with my "L" stack, as it looks clipped right out of WBPP, if that's the case then it might explain the 'missing dust'.  I'll post over there and see what the crowd thinks.  Thanks again for pointing in this direction.

Totally agree with your approach to target selection! I shoot the Challenge object if it fits in an open window in my overall imaging plan, and I might not get much time in on it at all. But the fun is in the discussion thread. Posting in the actual submission thread only gets you a chance to pick the next target, since it is a random draw. But in the discussion, you can pick up some good pointers or help others solve problems or improve their overall imaging. With problem images, giving others access to a problem stack or other data gets the collective minds working with you. There are some regular participants who are very accomplished imagers and very helpful to a lot of us. Of course, the SNR varies, but it doesn't take much to check in to see how things are going.

Looking at your full post in the Challenge, I have to admit I am at a loss as to why things just "don't look right", given the details of capture and processing. Letting folks see your raw stacks or some of the subs might give more answers.
