hello all

I just had my eaf fail. when I tested it there was no rotation from the motor and a beeping sound came from the unit. I have ordered a new EAF but I was just wondering if anybody has repaired them? thanks in advance

You can contact ZWO service.  They have a support location on the US now.

Try flashing the firmware to see if that fixes the problem.

Verify the connection isn’t slipping?

My EAF was defective out of the box. Took me time to realize it was the unit itself.

It would not operate in the inward direction reliably. It would randomly stop and had to be manually restarted.

The bottom line after playing ping-pong with ZWO in New Jersey was I made a training video for them to teach their techs how to actually test the dam things.

Then, and only then, they sent me a new EAF.

In the meantime I got a Pegasus Astro Focus Cube2 and went on with my nebula season.

ZWO ASI lost me as a future customer.

I am really sorry that you are having this problem with your EAF. Can you confirm that the focusser is making the usual beeps. I ask because the focusser keeps track of where it is on its focus travel (its internal step count) and I doubt it would try and move, fail and not report it. I have had a case where the grub screws where the EAF coupling grips onto my Esprit 150 had loosened and were slipping. It was weird as it seemed to move in one direction only and my focus position on the EAF counter was wrong. Does the EAF report a new position when you try to move it.

Other things that can catch the EAF out are being asked to move to an illegal range, somethimes this is because it has lost track of where it is and needs to recalibrate.

I seem to recall there also being a ZWO tool that allows you to reset the EAF then recalibrate. These are plucky little units, and from what I have experienced and read are pretty reliable and accurate. I am still hopeful that yours is not dead.

How are you controlling it (e.g. NINA, ASIAir etc). You may want to connect it directly to a PC and use ZWO's suite to see if you can coax it into action.
