What's up with that? Where are all the undercut haters? I'm not trolling just curious saw some 19 and 35 but no 24? I need a second one and don't care about undercut, on the other hand are the new ones coming optically better? Made in Japan instead of Taiwan so maybe better polish?

Try a wanted ad. Sometimes people don't think about selling an eyepiece they don't need anymore, but a wanted ad could spark their desire to sell it.

And one thing that bugs me about the classifieds is that I've noticed a lot of sellers delete their ads after their items sell. I wish they didn't do that because It's valuable to search a telescope's or eyepiece's sales history to determine an accurate price. I guess some people want to erase any evidence that they owned and sold certain things for some reason.

The 24mm are highly coveted, jealously horded, and sell almost instantly. I finally just bought a pair new.    Tom

Hello Scout.

None of my favorite U.S.A. and Candian based Vendors have the 24 Panoptics in stock all "Back Ordered" but depending how bad you really want one TS Optik, and APM out of Germany still have a few. I checked Ebay for a 24 panoptic and none are listed used but there is a rare 26 Nagler listed, it took me two years to find one.

On Astromart, a 24 mm Panoptic was advertised on March 23rd and between March 4th and March 13th, there were 4 ads for 24 mm Panoptics, including two separate ads on the 13th.

Hello Mike and Jon,

I must have missed the TeleVue 24 Panoptic add on Astromart the first time around. There is still one left page 4.

Well I'm not going to join A-Mart again for one E/P! Just thought it was odd none for sale on C/N for so long?

The true undercut haters never would have bought the panoptic to begin with! So probably not many selling for that reason.

It is odd. I wonder if there's an underlying cause.. Concern for supply, love of undercuts.

I wouldn't join Astromart for one eyepiece but I've been a member for 24 years and I've purchased the vast majority of my equipment on Astromart.

Probably the best deal was the 13.1 inch F/5.5 Starsplitter with a dual axis Tom O. Aluminum equatorial platform, all for $1000. It has a Royce mirror, Feathertouch focuser, the good stuff.

I've been a member on and off for years, Starry Messinger before that.

I tried to re-up and my e-mail and password came up but then the notice that these do not match their records, then I tried to register and got a notice that that e-mail was already in use! Stupid!!!!!

It’s only 16 bucks, so I guess just keep on looking. Good luck with that penny pinching.

Last Sept. I gave a 24mm Pan away as part of an 8 inch dob package our club was part of giving to a remote First Nations community on Vancouver Island. I also included a TV 19mm (maybe it was 15mm) wide field and a 7mm Nagler smoothie. They were eyepieces I had inherited from oldies who’d aged out so I thought they would be put to good use by people who have less than I do. They are in the early planning stages of starting a Dark Sky Festival. I was part of their inaugural dry run.

Hi betacygni, I know that undercuts are a deal-breaker for you (in fact I learned it was not a joking matter when I made a comment and you pointed out that it is a big deal to you, which is cool- and I don't joke about it anymore). Anyway, you probably mentioned it already but are you gonna be buying yourself some of the new non-undercut TV offerings? I know Don has mentioned using metal tape to fill in the undercuts and I wonder how many people actually do that, and how many of them might buy the new model. I also find it hard to believe that some enterprising machinist hasn't made barrels for the ep's that could have them replaced, could sell thousands of them I would think.

I have filled in undercuts with epoxy and turned the resulting surface flat.

Next going to try adding coloring to make it match the rest of the barrel. Should work quite nicely for stainless and aluminum barrels, but not so well to match the smooth surface of chromed ones.

How much would you pay for a properly machined barrel that fit a 24mm Panoptic?

I’m very tempted to try them again now that they are undercut free. That said I’m not a particular fan of the Panoptics’ pincushion distortion (wow I must sound really picky by now!), but I did love the 24mm panoptic in all other ways.

I’m really impressed Televue listened to the relative minority of undercut haters. Always liked Televue, but even more impressed by them now.

Btw what's with the low stock on what seems to be most Televue products these days?

How about the new smooth barreled T7's, is it possible your heart could be dreaming of a bino pair of 9mm while your wallet has nightmares ha-ha?

what if you used clear epoxy jam-packed with silver glitter, if it didn't match it would still look cool. Or is that just way to chancy that the glitter doesn't stay put?

My wallet is trembling in fear, since I only binoview and would need two…I suspect I’ll have to try a pair though eventually!

I would not be surprised if this catches on, as TV is a true market leader in many ways.

I'll certainly raise a toast on that.

PS: The 24mm Panoptic is so popular because it provides the  largest field fitting into a 1.25-inch barrel. My favorite eyepiece pairs on my 16-inch F/4.5 True Binoscope are these three >>> really pulls in those little fuzzies >>>    Tom

   eyepiece                magnification     pupil      AFOV        TFOV

Pano 24mm                     76x            5.3mm      68o        51 arc-min

Pano 19mm                     96              4.2            68         40

Nagler T6 13mm            141              2.9            82         33

If what catches on - no undercuts? If that's what you are referring to, they are late to the party.
