good evening,

what would you consider the best Canon camera for solar eclipse photography in very hot conditions ( temp of 40°C).

I thought the Eos R5 would be the best but I have second thoughts because of the overheating problems in very hot environment.

I don't consider the Eos R1 because of the price.

looking forward to your recommendations.

clear nights

I used an EOS  80D in 2017. This was South Carolina and the temperature was 32C.

The R8 is interesting but I think it's downside is the small battery with less capacity. An eclipse is a long event, although during the partial it's fairly relaxed, it gets intense during totality. I recommend making sure you can take bracketed exposures with a remote control and look at the eclipse with your eyes the whole time because there are aspects of what you will see that no camera can capture.

I used a 450D and a 600D for the Great American Eclipse of 2017:

And I used the same 600D for the April 2024 eclipse over my ancestral Texas home:

Honestly, any camera should be able to handle 40°C. I shot in heat stroke conditions in the Australian outback with the 600D, and it never had any issues…
