Well, congratulations to Sam Singer and Wyoming Stargazing! We do have a lot of dark skies here. DaveL's map shows sites to 21.99 mpsas, and a site that registrars 21. 85 mpsas is only 20 minutes from downtown Jackson. Even our airport got a dark sky "urban" award--assuming that's not an oxymoron!

Dark, clear, calm skies.

Very nice to see this! I had been camping/backpacking many years ago in the half moon lake area, about 30 miles from Pinedale Wyoming but I was disappointed to learn they put in a natural gas development near the latter that reportedly lit-up the whole area ...

Well, get ready for unbridled drilling, mining and logging in pristine public lands out west:

"The Nevada parcels are also in Lyon and Washoe Counties. The Utah parcels are in the western portion of the state, including around the city of St. George and near Zion National Park."

We'll see if the above expands into big Wyoming country, too

Well, yes, the problems are here, too. There has been oil and gas exploration in Jackson Hole but it was not deemed economically viable. Increased clear cutting is more of a concern as is the sale of public lands. A group of people in the legislature would sell land in Grand Teton and Yellowstone NPs and the real estate cabal folks are drooling.

Dark, clear, calm skies.
