I have a 12" F5 dob and a Arcturus Binoviewer with an equivalent 2.6x Barlow to reach focus.

I mostly use the bino with the moon, planets and small DSOs like M13.

I only want a primary pair of eyepieces and I'm in doubt between the ones of the title.

My first views were with the Svbony UFF 18mm 65⁰ (around 7mm of real f.l) (which I bought for around 130€ the pair) and sold after I bought a pair of Explore Scientific 14mm 82⁰ (around 5.5mm of real f.l) (which I bought for 180€, the pair).

Now I have the opportunity to buy a pair of Morpheus 17.5 for 320€.

Some questions:

1. Is the Arcturus (AliExpress) Binoviewer prisms big enough to fill the full field of the Morpheus? I think the field stop is at the limit of that bino. Any one have tried it and can confirm that it doesn't vignette?

2. Is there a notable difference between the UFF 18 and the Morpheus 17.5? As I sold the UFF because I liked the bigger AFOV of the 14ES82, will I like the Morpheus more than the UFF18 and will make such a difference that I'll like it more than the 14ES82?

I have experience with large eye relief ep's like the 17ES92 and I liked it but I also like the "medium" eye relief of the 14ES100 or the 14ES82, so that's not a selling point for me.

Tonight I've tested the 14ES82 on M13 and in a word: wow.

I think I've changed my mind about changing them. The Morpheus might be as good or even better, but I really enjoy the full 82⁰ of the ES, and I find them really comfortable to use. I think I will just keep them and forgot about the Morpheus.

Moreover, the Morpheus pair are 180g heavier than the ES and more bulkier... That's a negative point for them.

I also have a pair of Svbony 25mm Plössl in case I want less magnification, but the 14ES82 are on the bino >95% of the time for a goof reason smile.gif

You've just found out when Good is good enough Cielo_nocturno !!

That IMO is one of the hardest of realities to understand for an analytical type.

We eventually reach a point where we're just splitting hairs when it comes to selecting an appropriate ocular.

A car analogy- we're choosing a car with 30miles to the gallon or another with 30.1. No difference IMO whatsoever.

ENJOY the beautiful views and call it a job well done !

You can't miss out on what you don't know.

And saving some weight is an under-rated bonus that can make up for very slight differences in view quality.

That maybe you'll never see.

Congratulations!

I'm currently looking for a pair of binoviewer eyepieces for more magnification. I just need 14-15 mm eyepieces and would like to try 82°. I don't wear glasses and like to snuggle up to the eyecups while watching. I was leaning towards UFF 15mm 65° eyepieces, but reading your review about ES 14mm 82°, I started to think that this is exactly what I need. Will they really be convenient for the bionoviewer with my observation style?
