Nice review. The SD seems like a great scope. I was toying with the idea of picking up a Petzval since WO has them on sale from their site for $199. It looks like the SD is worth the extra cost.

Nicely written. It's good to see side by side comparision shots.

FWIW, by design the petzval will have about 30% less CA than an achromatic doublet of the same focal lenght.

Given the small increase in cost, I'd highly recommed on of the various little 66mm "apos" over the petzval - assuming funds permit.

Various astro shots show there to be some residual CA in the SD doublets, not surprising given their FPL-51 design. It would be interesting to see the results of an FPL-53 based doublet side by side with an fpl-51 version - as per astrophotography. For visual, it doesn't make much difference.

I actually have an FPL-53 prototype, and a fpl-51 production version, if I get around to it at some point I may actually be able to run the test. Although given my current backlog, that's probably rather unlikely in the near future.

Great review, and something I was in need of. I was thinking of picking up a grab'n'go for those spur of the moment viewing opportunities; the review gave me a lot to think about.

Daren.
