Might be a dumb question but I'm going to ask it.  Also wasn't sure where to post this but given people DIY their eyepiece storage, this seemed like a good fit in this section.

I've started to amass a fair number of filters which are not that inconsequential in value, SHO, LRGB, etc.  These are mostly mounted in 1.25" and 2" format but given not all of these spend their life in filter wheels, is there a decent hack or obvious solution to store these other than their original retail containers.

For the safety and longest life of my filters I have always chosen the obvious solution of storing them in their original retail containers.

I have 20 or so Kowa photographic filters, square @ 4", of different wratten numbers that have always been stored in their original containers and they are in original condition. They were bought in the mid-1980's.

If you search (say Amazon) for lens filter storage, bag, pouch there are many options for camera people that hold 2" filters.

I have the Tiffen 6 Pocket Filter Pouch. Sorry links not working for some reason.

Back in the olden days of film photography, I would purchase a couple extra UV filters. I would screw all my filters together in a stack and then put the UV filters on each end of the stack to protect the "real" filters. Later, Cokin came out with unmounted square filters that slid in and out of frames that were attached to the camera lens. They sold lens boxes that would hold several filters safely. Even though it's a rather pricey option, today I use Baader Stackable Plastic Filter boxes for my solar and visual filters. They lock together and have a drawer that can be labeled.

Since the majority of my filters are purchased from Baader, they come in the same boxes and are pre-labeled.

I bought two of these off of Etsy, with a filter slide for each filter:

They are held in place magnetically. Not dust proof so I kept them in plastic container.

I won't be much help here.  I only buy Baader filters and their OEM containers stack just like one other user posted.  I keep them in my storage box and pull them out when needed.
