Last Night's Moon, Gassendi and Plato  5-9-25

Eight two-minute videos, ASI183mm Pro, 8 EdgeHD, AutoStakkert and WaveSharp, and Microsoft ICE.

I wanted to find the Apollo 14 landing site but that didn't work out:

Usually I look for a region that looks like a sharp image and then after processing try to figure out what's in the picture.

I was just reading the May 2021 issue of Astronomy and they had a cool article on page 24, "Apollo 14, Bouncing Back from Disaster." It gives transcripts from the mission, basically the whole story in their own words. I won't spoil the ending!

Last night I thought I would go to the Apollo 14 landing site, near Fra Mauro and look for Cone Crater. How hard could it be?

I wasn't even close. The inverted image, vertical and horizontal, took its toll. I ended up at Archimedes. Some parts of the Moon were not giving me a clear image. And it didn't help that I missed my target. I get to try again. But LROC gives a clear marker where it is:

I used Microsoft ICE to make larger images of Gassendi and Plato.

In this image of Copernicus, from 5-7-25, I actually imaged the Apollo 14 landing site. Left side, LROC and right side, Copernicus image from 5-7-25.  (This was from before I decided to try and image the Apollo 14 site, which went wrong as noted above!)  Odd coincidence. Still like to find Cone Crater.
