I currently own a SVX90T and am thinking about upgrading to the SVX102T.  My mount is an AM5N.  I am not overly concerned about the weight increase.  I am concerned about the length increase and guiding.  At times guiding can be problematic on my existing setup.

SVX90T - Length 20.25", Weight 8.0 Pounds

SVX102T - Length 28.00", Weight 9.8 Pounds

I searched AstroBin and didn't see too many of the above combinations.  Do you think the AM5N and SVX102T would have any problems.

Thx

I have the SVX 102T with ZWO 2600mm, 7x36 EFW and CAA, mounted on my AM5. My total weight is 28 pounds. A couple nights ago, I was getting .35 to .5 RMS Guiding. Unfortunately, the sky here has been bad for quite a while, so imaging has been limited.

Jim,

A friend of mine has an AM5, ZWO CF tripod anchored to the ground by turnbuckles at each leg, and a SVX130T, 2600MC, filter wheel and OAG.  He does use the CW shaft and 11 pound weight. The only problem he had was flipping, after flipping NINA could not plate solve. So we watched it flip again, the mount shuddered, like it skipped a tooth when starting to flip. That is when I said put the CW on. No problems after CW was installed.

He guides with a ZWO 174 mono mini,  using PHD2, calibrating at the equator like you are supposed to, he guides at .5 to .8 on bad nights, .4 to .7 on most nights. Also depends on where in the sky he is shooting. North, M81, .4 to .5,  closer to the equator .5 to .7.  That's both sides of the meridian.  He has the flattener so he is at native 910mm,  he is waiting for the reducer flattener.

He is very methodical, watches a lot of videos. Watched Patriot Astro on the guiding settings for his ASIair, then when he switched to NINA transferred those settings to PHD2,   Aggression, min move those type settings.

I will see him tomorrow, ask him to chime in.

I also know a guy who has the SVX102T, AM5 and the 2600 mono with OAG and filter wheel. He never spoke of problems and took phenomenal pictures.  I will PM you.

Joe

Theres no reason that setup should struggle with guiding. If you have issues should be considering an oag or shielding the scope from wind
