Just got back out after lunch and the 4085 area is exploding

Have a look and I hope someone gets an animation

Enjoy

Dan

When I looked at the alerts it was a M 4.7.

That has to be the largest flare I’ve seen, It blew off a considerable distance above the disk , way taller than the largest proms I can remember and it’s all but gone now.

Fantastic to watch in real time

Dan

Thanks for the heads-up, Dan.

Unfortunately, its been cloudy all day here. But I did make this collage of GONG images to show it:

Approximately 40 minutes from start to finish, just as you recorded. If you run the video on GONG it is a quick burst only, given their time increments for new images.

I just happened to take my PST out around 11:20 AM (PDT) and saw the twisting mass of plasma plus a distant cloud of plasma faintly glowing (GONG's field is not wide enough to see this cloud). Moments later, my phone went off with the Solar Flare Alert. Fantastic stuff!

Wow, that is impressive! Here it's totally cloudy and rainy as usual this spring.

That reminds me of one I took with my 50mm Lunt in 2022. I added an earth image more or less to scale to show magnitude.
