Hi There,

Can anyone help me? Does anyone in the Double Star Observing group use a Astrometic eyepiece for measuring Doubles?

I can not get one in the UK.

Can some one tell me where I can buy a second hand one.

Thank you.

Clear Skies Everyone.

These come up on CN Classifieds or Ebay occasionally. I bought one on Ebay a couple of years ago. Prices that I've seen range from around $120 to $200 USD. There are two versions which I'm told are identical, one by Baader and one made by Baader and branded Celestron. I have the Celestron one. It has the reticle you have shown.

The eyepiece is a basic 12.5 mm with limited eye relief. I need to use it glasses off. It works best on a long focal length instrument so your may want to use it with a Barlow. The one I bought was hazy, so I disassembled it and cleaned it out with Zeiss wipes. Optically, that made it like new.

Baader's website says they do a production run occasionally: https://www.baader-p...lluminator.html You may wish to contract them and see if/when a new one will be available.

Best regards,

Bill

Steve at ENS Optical seems to have one in stock right now:

Yes, place a wanted ad in UK AstroBuySell or Stargazers Lounge.  I did buy the Baader astrometric model ages ago that way - which I have now sold.  When measuring I use a filar micrometre from VSI:  http://www.observatory.org/bfm.htm Unfortunately no longer in business.

The ENS eyepiece should be in good condition and although the price is a bit rich, these are now rare.

Just ask Mr. Johannes Baader for some residual items:

https://www.baader-p...lluminator.html

(The best and sharpest one is the Zeiss/Abbe/Baader Genuine Ortho 12.5mm-based and phantom coated model, not the Celestron 12.5mm model; I like mine very much...)

For subtle measurements, you can additionally use a 2x-5x Barlow that works very well at good seeing...

If you haven't found one yet, one just got listed in the classifieds. No idea if the seller is willing to ship to the UK, but I sent them a message pointing them your way.
