An alternative that will NOT be considered, is that these objects are very dim and not at cosmic distance, and are not hosting an SMBH and not emitting X-rays. That is, they are galaxy seeds showing intrinsic redshift.
I think we are seeing a repeat of the "Michael Disney experience" with Hubble. He was on the team designing the instruments. He was worried about the integrated light from low-surface brightness galaxies that were sure to be seen. The theorists explained that such galaxies could not possibly exist.
