I had a look through images I'd taken since September 2024 and cropped the plateau area from 3 of them. These crops are a minute section of the original images, but serve to illustrate the plateau - I think.

Read this interesting topic about three weeks ago. Thought about it for a moment and added it to the "list". June 3rd the date as the sun angle perfect for excellent contrast.  Clouds on the third.  The fourth not looking good but clouds going away as the sun set.

Started observing early dusk and, yes this its an interesting feature. However being a day late the sun angle too high to get the contrast I wanted. Spent the next hour observing taking notes and doing a preliminary sketch. Seeing was okay from my Bortle 6 driveway. However as it got dark things improved a bit.

This sketch made from my session.

IMG 7487

The elevated area featureless as most of terrain around it. The only real evidence this feature elevated was the shadow and tail like hills opposite. As I observed various details would pop in and out.  However drew only what I could confirm.  No detail to be seen on the elevated part. Was at 270X  with my 15" Dob.  For every 2 seconds of clarity there were 15 of not so great!

Have this on my list for next month. Now that I have a grasp on the area hope I can see greater detail at higher power.

regards,

John

Very nice sketch of this interesting feature, John.  Looking forward to your future observational sketches.

Marco Campaniello recently posted another of his amazing 3D videos on YouTube of this exact feature. It is definitely worth a look and a thumbs up!

Yes, a very interesting lunar area. I recently finished a 3d model of this area!!

This evening I'll try to create a 3d model using a HD photo by LRO

I can't find a good HD image taken by LRO. Have you seen any photos online?
