Hello everyone!

I plan to use my camera to shoot 2 total solar eclipses in 2026/27. I'm looking for a solution to control the camera with a computer - to automate shooting in a short time with preset parameters to free my hands.

I noticed that Sony's official website provides Camera Remote Command and Camera Remote SDK, but my model only supports the former, which seems to be commercial software.

My questions are:
- Is there any programmable solution that allows the computer to control the camera?
- Is there any other better electronic control solution for shooting the total solar eclipse?

My equipment:
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020), macOS 15.5
- Sony ILCE-7RM3A

This is my first time posting a topic, I hope I posted it in the right forum :)

Thanks!

I used DigicamControl with my A5000 during the last eclipse.

Used too long of a lens, 500mm, and focus was a challenge.

Make sure to experience the eclipse and make the photo a secondary goal.

Eclipse maestro works with Sony and Mac, but only older MacOS unless there’s been an update. I bought an older MacBook on eBay for like $100 for the event. I used it in 2024 just fine.

This project seems to be stalled. I need to find an Intel laptop to try.
