I already have the TV 31 for my AD10 Dob.

Has anyone tried that eyepiece with a TV PowerMate?

If so, do you recommend the combination?

Only if you have a sturdy focuser.  The TV31mm NT5 and 2x Powermate together weigh 55 ounces and will extend 7” out of the focuser.

By contrast, the 16mm NT5 weighs 7 ounces.

Optically, the Nagler/Powermate combo is fine.  Mechanically, it is a nightmare.

I agree with Spikey131.  I do not have the 31, but I do have the 22 Nagler and I do use it with my 2X powermate. A great combination.  Heavy, but I have a R&P refractor.  I don't have a 15mm or 16mm eyepiece, I use all my eyepieces with the powermate.  Now that is not saying much, I only have the 22 Nagler, 20mm Edmund Scientific, and 8mm Delos.  I actually prefer the 8mm Delos and powermate to my Nagler 3mm to 6mm Nagler zoom set to 4mm.  FOV and I think it looks crisper.  It's a 130mm refractor.  That high of power I'm looking at the Moon or planets.

Echoing the other comments. Yeah, you could, but there are far better methods to reach 15-16mm focal lengths without adding 3.5lbs to the focuser of your telescope. lol.

First off, it will be a nightmare to find balance, and secondly if you’re that hellbent to have an 82 degree FOV and love Televue eyepieces that much, go with a Nagler 16mm Type 5. I think that may very well be why Televue kept it around for moments like these. lol.gif

I used mine with an A-P Barcon - just once.

Pushing that heavy eyepiece even further out is a Moment Arm nightmare. Much easier to buy a second eyepiece for the focal length you are trying to hit.

All good observations, and I’m grateful for them. If TV would hurry up and ship the 7s, I wouldn’t be thinking about a Powermate!

But they will sell no eyepiece before its time.

I NEEEEED a Nagler 7. I made the mistake of looking through one at NEAF.

If you need something now, I’d buy the 16.5mm Pentax XW before I used the 31mm Nagler with a Powermate. I’ve had the 31N in the Powermate before, and it really puts the torque on the focuser.

I have tried it and also with an ES 20mm / 100. Optically it worked excellently but ergonomically I was not happy with the length of the resulting stack and neither was my focuser !
