Apologies for yet more Rho content.  Well, not really - it is the most beautiful region of the sky IMHO.

Astronomik L-2 Luminance UV/IR Block 2": 235×120″(7h 50′).  Antares was giving a wild halo - absolutely massive.  I was about to actually ditch the data and reframe and move on.  And then I used the content aware removal tool in Ps and with two iterations it did an incredible job.  The massive red halo was gone like it never existed.  And when I say massive, it was like 10x larger than Antares in my image.   I have reframed and moved on because I prefer to get it right in camera as much as possible, but I was genuinely impressed.  I will dig into the halo cause when conditions are not so good.  The last time I had Antares right in the frame like this I was shooting with my AT80 doublet, L3 filter and wasn't troubled by it.  416mm FF65, 2600mc and L2 filter (which was having it's first real test....  so who knows if that was the culprit).  As I say, I will dig in when the moon is back or the clouds are back.  Sorry for the missing "and" in my title...

I'm working on a similar pic from Bortle 8/9, so it'll take a while  :)  And, yes, Antares is a monster.

Nice pic!

Stunning! Nice framing.

Thanks very much.  Increasingly the framing is something that I try and take more seriously, so I appreciate your comment.  Having an automated rotator now really helps.

Thanks.  Ironically it is a monster that a doublet had no problems with.  Looking forward to your usual mastery of light pollution!

The remove tool is indeed very smart. It's even better than the spot healing brush tool which I normally use.

I had a star which had some strange artifact on the edge and couldn't get rid of it. Cloning made a mess of it and the spot healing brush tool didn't understand there was a star. Then I used the remove tool and gone artifact and perfect round star.
