This line of colorful stars appears to tumble into the small open cluster NGC 1502.

Yes, this is a beautiful sight to view in a telescope! And NCG 1502 is a beautiful little open cluster to observe as well.

Has anyone captured this with an S50? I might have to give it a try when I get mine.

NGC 1502 would be a nice target, but the cascade would need a much wider field of view.

I remember stumbling upon this asterism back in the 90's with my 16" Dob. Every once in a while I would find an interesting asterism or pattern of stars. This one was simply beautiful.

Kemble’s Cascade is one of my favorites! At the end of the Cascade is 1502 as you noted. A short distance away is NGC1501 “Oyster/Camel Eye” planetary nebula.

Lovely train of stars . I KNEW what it was the first time I wandered over it.

Nice Dave!

Here's a sketch from 2023:

Kemble's cascade cr.jpg

Magnification was 14x, FOV is almost 6 degrees.

Don't you just love that trail of stars, it's melodic even.

The Kemble's cascade used to be very helpful when navigating towards the DSOs in the western Camelopardalis.

The open cluster NGC 1502 and the nearby NGC 1501 planetary nebula are rewarding.

Clear skies,

JG
