I bought Starry Night 8 Pro Plus at a discount. I’m also using the SkySafari Pro version on mobile. But honestly, the star rendering in Starry Night seems worse than in SkySafari Pro.

When I zoom in, the stars look extremely bloated and blurry. Stars that are close together appear merged, like they’re just stuck together. It doesn’t really look like proper star images—more like a very low-resolution image that’s simply been enlarged.

Only when the field of view drops below 1 arcminute does that crude rendering disappear, and the stars finally separate and become distinguishable.

Is there a way to turn off this crude image rendering option?

I’m disappointed that the star appearance is actually worse than even the free Stellarium.

I've only got 7 Pro.  In settings > stars near the bottom there is an adjustment for "symbol size"

I suspect what you are seeing is the all sky CCD image. I am not sure how you turn that off but it would give bloated stars

Yes, turn off All-Sky. You can get to its settings in the "Options" menu on the right pop-out panel. Expand the "Stars" section and click on "All-Sky Image", then select "Do Not Display All-Sky at Small Field of Views". This will turn off All-Sky when you zoom in to 2deg or less. If that's not good enough, just turn off "All-Sky" completely.

Thank you all. I couldn't find it in the menu above, so I searched for Allsky in the search box on the right and found an option to turn it off.
