NGC 5972 (UGC 9946, PGC 55684 and others) is an odd spiral galaxy located approximately 424 million light-years away in Serpens Caput. The oddity is that this one has a lot of green areas in the arms. Normally this would show up through an OIII filter but redshift would prevent it in this case. More information including Hubble images can be found here - https://science.nasa...ctive-galaxies/.

Luminance – 26x600s – 260 minutes – binned 1x1
RGB – 10:9:9x300s – 50:45:45 minutes each – binned 2x2

400 minutes total exposure – 6 hours 40 minutes

Imaged May 18th through 22nd, 2025 from Dark Sky New Mexico at Rancho Hidalgo (Animas, New Mexico) with a SBIG STF-8300M on an Astro-Tech AT12RCT at f/8 2432mm.
