I want to connect my Nikon D610 in NINA. I am familiar with NINA and image regularly with ZWO cameras.

I have tried connecting with the "Nikon" driver in NINA and also with the DSLR Ascom driver (properties set to Nikon). Both methods produce errors. "Unable to connect"

With Ascom, I get "Object reference not set to an instance of an object".both with the Ascom test dialog and in NINA.

With native Nikon, I get "Cannot set shutter speeds. Please make sure the camera dial is set to a position where bulb mode is possible and the mirror lock is turned off"

I am a DSLR novice. I can see that shutter speed is in bulb mode on the camera (I set that) and that "S" (single exposure) is selected. Remote control mode is set to "Quick-response remote".

I updated the camera firmware to the latest.

Any help will be appreciated.

I looked on the NINA discord but didn't find anything to help.

I just downloaded Digicamcontrol and it connected and took an exposure...now I am really confused. Is the Ascom driver not working for Nikon?

Thanks, JL. I hope to get this working with NINA. I have the Rokinon 14mm lens that I want to make a Milky Way mosaic with. I have a Losmandy DSLR adapter coming so that I can use it on my 10Micron. It sure would be a lot easier to attach the mount and camera in NINA. Plate solving with slew and center to get the mosaic coordinates right is something I rely on with all my scopes.

Is your camera set to manual or shutter priority? It should be set to manual, but it sounds like you might be in shutter priority.

David, I have it set to "M" on the top dial. I believe that is manual.

Just to verify, you are connecting via the USB port?

Yes, USB. PC is visible on top status display.

Do you use a DSLR with NINA?

I have USB connected my D5300 to NINA. It does it without any issues.

When you first start NINA, does it show Nikon as one of your camera choices?

I am no expert on NINA, so just wondering.

Yes. I have both Nikon and the Ascom DSLR driver. I am fooling around with the Nikon driver again. Is that how you connect? I get an error with it.

I believe it is using the Nikon driver.

I found the old USB cable for my D610. When I plugged it in, WIndows saw the camera. NINA connected without issue.

I am running Windows 11, Version 24H2, fwiw.

Just a thought. When you plug the camera into your computer, do you get the connection beep from the OS indicating it is connected? I use some USB hubs that have to have the individual port to have its power button depressed to the on position. Otherwise, Windows won't see a device I plug in that port.

FWIW,

David, Thank you for all your help. The thing is that it connects and takes images with software called DigicamControl. I just discovered the software today and have spent the last hour looking through the documentation. I guess I will just use Digicam for the camera and NINA for the mount to slew to the coordinates.

For anyone else that wants DSLR control, Digicam is free and works easily. It even has scripting if you want to set up more than a basic serial capture.

It is disappointing that neither the native Nikon or Ascom DSLR drivers will work with Nina. Oh well, that is the nature of astrophotography. Someone told me long ago, use what works!
