Attached is a CN-sized photo of M83 I took a few days after a tornado swept through my neighborhood here in southern Kentucky on May 16. The tornado cut through the woods on my property missing our house by about 400 yards, then demolished my neighbors entire farm before moving east. We were lucky. Afterwards we had no power for a week, and I had to spend 2 days cutting downed trees just so we could get off our property. During that week we were on generator power and we didn't get home internet back until today.

The night of May 21 we were going to have a few hours of clear skies. I thought at first that didn't seem right to enjoy my hobby after what everyone in my area had gone through. And I wasn't sure how the equipment would work on generator power. But then I thought that you never know when it will be your last night shooting, so I went ahead and targeted M83. It is very low from my location so it's no the easiest target, but I thought why not.

Overall I was happy to have gone ahead and shot that night as I think the photo is not too bad. I didn't like the stars so I synthesized them. This is 75x60s taken with my ES ED127 refractor using an ASI585MC Pro.

Take care everybody - Roger

M83 is a lovely galaxy- I must try & image this myself.

That's a nice image you have presented with good colour. I think you need to ease off on the noise reduction a little. That can be future compensated by capturing more data.

Lovely galaxy picture, and glad you made it through the disaster as a fellow Kentuckian. It's been such a horrible year here for tornadoes and flooding, with so many people impacted.

Probably, but where I live it's very rural and already very dark, so I didn't notice. When it's not cloudy/rainy we have nice nights here in south-central Kentucky. It's been particularly wet since November, but it's been a bit better this week, and even with some smoke and the Moon it looked nice last night and I was able to get some good data - taking the good with the bad.

rsliva,

As a neighbor in middle TN,  I'm glad you were okay, I feel for your neighbors. Where I live, we have been extremely lucky, although a couple of tornadoes went through not too far from here, 3 miles away in April.

Your picture is very nice.

I find that following bad weather, tornado or hurricane / tropical storm, it is extremely clear and stable.

The weather here so far has been so bad, the last time I set up was late March.

Joe
