Does/can the auto guide correct the back lash error of the tracker?

If I buy less expensive tracker and spend the money on the guide scope(and its corresponding camera) and ASIAIR a tracker like Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer GTi being known for some back lash

Will that give me good tracking time for DSO

Best regards

I run PHD2. The Guiding Assistant will measure and offer suggestions on backlash.

That is what I am considering also as PHD2 vs ASIAIR

Thanks

No, no software on earth can "correct" backlash. Only mechanical changes to your mount can.

But PHD can reduce the effect backlash has on its ability to guide, by measureing it and anticipating it when guiding in declination. So the consequences it has for its operation is greatly reduced. PHD does this automatically, so you don't have to worry about it. Its behaving true to its name here.

You could also NOT guide the mount. Or at least not guide in declination - which is likely what most simple tracker have to do anyways, as they have no drives on that axis. Then backlash has zero consequences, is entirely irrelevant, you would never know your mount has any.
