I am not sure how this is used. I know what it does and how to do it. What I don't know is the procedure.

When I tell it to denoise and it finishes the 15 seconds it comes up with Compare. Pressing this shows the before and after.  Now what?  When pressing the back arrow on the left it goes back to enhancing .. Am I supposed to save  the 'after' some how before the back arrow ? Or does it auto save...   Also , how often should it be used.  Is it just once after when finishing the image....

Thanks

To save a copy of the denoised image press the icon above the compare button. That pulls up a menu from the bottom of the screen. Press download and a copy will be saved in your gallery.

I have the same question. Is this done after your imaging is finished or can/should you do it periodically? Also can you pull up an older image from your library and apply it?

It does make a nice difference when applied.

Thanks!

You can run denoise as many time as you like anytime during your capture, once you have at least one light sub captured. You can't run it on images in your gallery but if the subs are still onboard the Seestar you can restack and then run denoise.

I am new to AP and also to my S50 (R2D2). How do you restack?

In the Seestar App, select Deep Sky Stack and then select the FITS files (aka Lights, Subs, etc) you wish to stack. As stated, these files must reside on the Seestar.

First choose the option in settings to save all frames. Then as marvindj said, use Deep Sky Stack to stack the saved subs.

You can also use external apps to apply AI denoise to the finished JPG images. I'm a fan of Photo AI from Topaz Labs. It gives you multiple denoising strengths and the ability to choose the amount of denoising to apply. You can also sharpen and apply other tools. It's not free, but it's worth the price as I use it constantly both for astro and for cleaning up old photos.

Thanks for the tips on stacking. I am slowly finding my way with this great instrument. Here is the product from stacking over 1700 20-second subs obtained over three nights in EQ mode. I started it at about 9:30 twilight each night and just let it run until auto-shutdown put it to sleep somewhere about 2:30am.

I did delete some subs including the "Starlink Express" which photo-bombed it twice! I also deleted the first couple subs because I started capturing too soon. Lesson learned...

For future reference, it helps if you don't start shooting until astronomical dusk, which is the time when the center of the sun is about 18° below the horizon and the sky is considered "dark" so that you can shoot without the sun lighting up your images. You can look up the time of astro dusk (and astro dawn, which is when you should stop shooting) online. For example, my telescope is at Starfront Observatories near Rockwood, Texas. Sunset tonight is at 8:44PM and sunrise at 6:32AM. But astronomical dusk is at 10:23PM and astro dawn at 4:53 AM. So I'll shoot only between those hours.

Thanks for that good information. I did notice that I had to delete a couple dozen subs at the beginning of my session :-)

I am somewhat limited because the Seestar S50 really has no ability to schedule a session. I will try waiting until more like 10:30p. This will take the session to ~3:30a which should still be dark when the low battery level triggered auto-shutdown happens. It seems as if ZWO could easily program their internal computer to allow for scheduled sessions and then do a graceful shutdown...

I am slowly researching and assembling a more capable "traditional" ASIAIR based system which will hopefully be able to schedule my sessions to take better advantage of the dark hours. Now I will need to descend the much deeper software rabbit hole. Fun stuff!

How is "scheduling a session" different than the Seestar's ability to create and execute a plan?

Look at Plan mode on the Seestar. You can schedule a session and it will not let you start before astro dark and will stop at astro dawn.

Thanks. I do not know how I missed that but as I said, I am definitely still on the steep part of the learning curve. I knew that ASIair had that option, but I did not know that Seestar had it also!
