I'm pretty new to this sight, so please bear with me...

I'm trying to find info on how to edit a single image of the lunar eclipse march 2025, so that I can bring out more of the star field.  Most of the  stars that I captured are quite faint, and I would like to lighten them without blowing out the properly exposed moon.  I have tried to find info online, but have not found much.  btw... I use Gimp for post editing.

Thank you!

While this is waiting to be moved to Planetary Imaging or wherever...

Star removal tools like StarNet are normally used to separate DSO objects from their star field to stretch them separately.  I imagine this would work here except that you might only stretch the stars.

Lunar/planetary imagers probably have better ways of doing this with their post processing apps.

Moving to an appropriate form from the Beginners Forum (No Astrophotography).

Sorry everyone.

One final question for the Administrator...  How is it that the post you submitted (above) was made at 5:50 p.m. if you are in Washington DC?

This forum : 'Lunar Observing and Imaging'  would be the best forum for post processing Lunar Eclipse imaging.

You will see numerous Lunar eclipse images here and numerous imagers as well.

frank :)
