Some good seeing this morning, would not have imaged if I'd not remembered to check if there was a Titan shadow transit.

C6 with ADC and ASI678MC, 5x5 minute derotation. In addition to Titan, Tethys and Dione are also visible to the left although I left them dim.

A false color composite for Venus turned out well due to some solid detail in UV.

And the UV and IR channels:

Thanks for looking!

Thanks for sharing the shadow transit photo-good job catching this. In Bay Area we had morning fog.

Very nice work, Winteria, especially considering how low both planets were at the time you imaged. I didn't have time for Venus this morning, but did capture three recordings of Saturn. Seeing was not good, and I think you've done a better job at capturing the cloud bands than I did.

Thanks for sharing!  Glad to see that a few others in the world were watching. I saw it from the Denver area.  Seeing was so-so.  But the western hemisphere is favored for this years events.  There will be more.

I saw a Titan transit last year, and then an occultation reappearance two weeks later.  I think the "icing on the cake"  will be the simultaneous Titan and shadow transit on Sept 20th.

Very good Winteria!
Happy to have confirmation that we didn't waste our money, buying that Chinese UV filter. :)
At the beginning of the month I also took a shot of Venus in UV, and from a quick processing also in my image you can see the same dark band at the equator.
Then in the last few days, I also took shots of Mercury and Mars. I hope to publish everything as soon as possible.

ps: these days I'm dedicating myself to the visual observation of Mercury.

Greetings

Interesting. Think this was another morning where seeing was not good enough to support a larger aperture?

Nice to hear your report John. Yes, 9/20 will be great for the west given clear skies!

Thanks antarex. Yes, for Venus it doesn't seem like there's much issue with the filter, although the IR leak is actually significant (especially for Mars) as discussed here https://www.cloudyni...3rd/?p=14148987.

Looking forward to your images.

.

Mars has stronger IR dark features than it does in UV, while IR cloud features of Venus are stronger in the UV. But Venus UV features have to be muted in contrast to some degree by the IR leak.

Over 15 years ago Baader 1.25" U-Venus filters were found to have an IR leak, but their 2" versions did not (IIR, there was a substrate difference that Baader then fixed). The leak appeared as a contrast-robbing overlapping ghost image that would easily misalign enough due to atmospheric dispersion to be easily seen when Venus was quite low. A friend of mine (Sean Walker of Sky&Telescope) had the problem 1.25" filter --- he had been gifted the filter by Baader for a project he was doing for them, and after he identified the leak they sent him a 2" version. He knew someone who had the proper tools to cut a 28mm disk from the 2" filter which he remounted in the 1.25" cell, and that's the UV filter he still uses today.

Wow, I had no idea filters could be so fickle, and we've talked filters before.  Also, I got to meet Sean at a concert in NYC in '16, great dude!  You keep good company!

Thanks again to the comments and likes.

Figured I'd try an animation after seeing Ray's. 45 minutes of data aligned using waveSharp 2.

I'm glad you went back to do the animation - it's very good!
