I've been "busy" for a couple of years and have just begun setting up an observatory again. I am currently configuring a Software Bisque Sky Fusion module and have hit a snag while using it as a stand alone unit, (screen, mouse, keyboard). I was configuring the unit when it started rebootin every 30 odd seconds. Does anyone know what may be the cause?

Thanks in advance,

Rom

That is such a general and vague description I’m not sure how you’d expect anyone to give you a definitive answer. The Fusion is a mini-PC, so it’s going to do mini-PC things. The problem could be hardware or it could be software. Can you make it boot off of an OS on a USB stick and it will stay up? Have you tried asking Software Bisque, its creator and vendor?

It runs linux and I'm pretty sure it outputs to the video port while booting. You need to catch the error on the monitor screen - not the front panel.

The unit has an eMMC 'drive'. If you have support through Software Bisque, you could probably download an image to reload it. You can find eMMC to usb adapters on Amazon if there's not another built in way.

Thanks for the reply. I am just describing what I have observed. I set it up as a stand alone to configure and got some joy. It loads all the software and saves the parameters I set, (from the manual), It then started rebooting randomly. I got through to SB and they suggested trying a CAT5 cable to see if the WIFI is working. That stabilised it a bit and I got the "Ready" message.  I was able t navigate the  the FUSION home screen and Imaging software without problems and it seems the software is all there.

Unfortunately, the stability didn't last and I am back to random reboots again. I even disconnected screen, keyboard etc which has made zero difference. The "error", (most likely my ignorance), seems to change a bit as I fiddle but it's still giving me the irrits...

Pre-Covid, I was pretty tech capable but I have copped some serious memory damage, (abt 30% just GONE), and have lost most of those skills.

Thanks for the input Dan. It meant pretty much nothing to mehmm.gif , but I'll try to relearn this stuff.

My gut instinct is that its all functional but running the original image of the S.W.. Been quite a while since I have been able to get my gear out at all.

With an ethernet cable connect to a router (to make sure it gets an IP) it shouldn't reboot. The reboot in cycle is usually a sign that it can't initialize the WiFi and has no Ethernet connection with an IP and valid default gateway.

Did you touch the network settings in any ways ? (hint : you shouldn't ).

Have also see reboots caused by power supply issues.  Either the external power source or the internal power module.  Had a laptop recently do this and it was traced down to the power regulator in the laptop itself.   Good luck!

Ah, now that's interesting. I am using a modified laptop power supply to do the setup. Its 12V 3A  I figured that since the FUSION unit was basically a mini computer, that would be enough before I went about connecting anything else that required more Amperage. I give that another look.

Hmmm. I set up the unit in the same room as my router.  Connected a CAT 5 cable and the FUSION confirmed a wired connection on the monitor I am using. Shortly there after, Fusion said the cable was disconnected and the reboot cycle started again. I tested the cable by linking my laptop to the router, and got a solid connection, so the cabling seems to not be an issue. I used the default WIFI setting per the manual when doing the wifi access point set up. NO Joy. KShank has flagged the power supply as a possible issue, so I'll try to replace that in a day or so and see if I get joy
