"I finally took the plunge and bought the Nexstar 8SE which has everything I imagined. The only thing missing is the description of the added screws on the 'rear cell' (6: 2 left, 4 right). Celestron.com and most all other pictures don't show any except the two default ones for the red-dot finder.

I have found in Celestron.com 'reviews' show (Sonia R.
03/02/2023) an update picture showing two of the new screws (2 left).

Question; are these threaded holes for additional mounts or are there nuts attached inside and used for ___, if unscrewed the nut will drop and can't be reattached?

  example: add 8x50 finder, StarSense, move red-dot finder left

On one CloudyNights forum it was suggested about the screws on the rear cell had nuts attached inside, if unscrewed the nut will drop and can't be reattached. Bad!

Again, your forum entries have helped to answer many questions and described many issues.  Thank you everyone!

Well, I'm sorry I had no replies here.  I did get an update from the manufacturer about the extra screws;

"Flush-Mounted Screws: These are structural screws that hold the components of the telescope tube together.
Round-Head Screws: These screws are used for attaching accessories, like a finderscope."

This link provides further details on installing mounts

I’m sorry you didn’t get any responses, but I’m sure grateful for your follow-up post. I never even gave thought to the idea that those screws could be holding the optics in place, and I’m glad they do not. I have an Evolution 9.25”, and am putting dovetail mounting brackets at the 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock positions where the two sets of round headed screws are located.  Unfortunately, the stock screws are not long enough to span the mounting bracket and still have enough thread to be screwed into the tapped holes on the OTA.  Celestron confirmed they are 8-32 screws, but also warned that I need to make sure that the amount of threaded bolt that goes into the OTA is no greater in length than the OEM screws, or you risk the screws coming into contact with and damaging the optics.
