Hello 6SE owners. As i am thinking of replacing my current g&go scope with this one, a question.

I would really like to have battery small enough to fit on the eyepiece tray. Is this feasible ? And if so, what battery would you recommend ?

Thanks for any opinions.

For the 6SE that is absolutely feasible. Something like this should power you for hours, particularly of it is just powering the mount.

I've 3D printed Talentcell battery holders for a couple club members with the 8SE. It was for the smaller version of the battery linked above. They are a great combo with this mount. If you prefer something spendier, a 10 to 20 amp (@12v) LiFePO4 battery with more watt hours would still fit just fine on the eyepiece tray.

My G&G is a C-6 on a Sky-Watcher AZ Gti mount, not much different than what you are discussing. I also use a Talentcell battery and a couple sturdy rubber bands to keep it in place.

The Celestron power tank has a Velcro strap so it easily attaches to a tripod leg , also a nylon strap with clips .

A tripod leg is not an ideal mounting point, as we know, because of cord-wrap annoyances.  But on my 6/8SE, I mount my battery pack to the back of the mount stalk with velcro, and it works reasonably well.

I used a TalentCell lithium battery pack with my SE mount, in a 3D printed holder to avoid cord wrap issues.

The basic TalentCell lithium-ion battery works great, lasting all night and more. You can spring for a physically larger and more expensive LiFePo pack but the higher actual voltage is completely unnecessary for the SE mount or any other mount designed to run on 8 AA batteries.

The back of the mount stalk is the hand controller no?  In 2014 mine had that there.

The hand controller is stored on the back of the mount stalk, but is corded. Mine doesn't stay in that position when I'm using it. There are brackets for mounting the controller at right angles if you want. I just typically lay mine on the base when not in use. Using it while it's in its storage position is difficult for me.

Yeah, its storage position is rather useless, unless maybe you're an octopus.

I velcro mine to the front of the stalk.  As i mentioned above, my battery pack is velcroed to the back of the stalk.

I mentioned in another thread elsewhere that my scopes tend to be covered by velcro!

lol.gif … you’re not the only one whos mounts have been covered in velcro, it’s the solution to everything.

I like your idea, anything to avoid cord wrap : >

Nice, but I prefer the controller to be facing me instead. Let me find whatever pictures I have of mine (now gifted along with the mount to a friend).
