There´s also a Double Double in Scorpius: nu Sco (Jabbah, AB/CD)
https://www.stelledo...?iddoppia=65333
AB is white, CD is pale blue, very nice but challenging...
For those observing in subtropical zones, splitting is rather easy with good optics of + 3" aperture, but at + 45° latitude it is difficult due to seeing and atmospheric turbulence. Same holds true for Antares...At my location (49° N), clean splits only 3-5 times a year...

(...Successor of the previous 'What's your favorite galaxy' & Your Favorite Open Cluster')
I made a list with 15 very pretty double stars / multiple stars.
Question 1: Which (only one) of the 15 double stars / mulitple stars do you like the most?
Question 2: If your favorite double star / multiple star isn't allready in the list - which double star(s) / multiple star(s) are your personal favorite(s)?
From North to South:
1. Iota Cassiopeia (+67 in Cassiopeia)
2. Epsilon Lyrae / Double Double (+39 in Lyra/Lier)
3. Albireo (+27 in Cygnus)
4. Izar (+27 in Boötes)
5. Algieba / Gamma Leonis (+19 in Leo)
6. Theta Tauri (+15 in Taurus)
7. Rasalgethi / alpha Herculis (+14 in Hercules)
8. Sigma Orionis (--2 in Orion)
9. Beta Monocerotis (-07 in Monoceros)
10. Sirius (- 16 in Canis Major)
11. Winter Albireo (-23 in Canis Major)
12. Antares / Alpha Sco (-26 in Scorpius)
13. Gamma Velorum (-47 in Vela)
14. Alpha Centauri (-60 in Centaurus)
15. Acrux (-63 in Crux)
Of those on your list my favorites are:-
Albireo
Antares
Alpha Centauri
Acrux
Two multiple systems that I really enjoy are:-
The Trapezium
HN40 in the Triffid Nebula
A couple of other doubles that I really like are
x Velorum (Dunlop 95)
Theta Eridanus (Acamar)
Rigel
My favourite double star is without question x Velorum (Dunlop 95). It has been referred to as Albireo Australis. It looks quite similar to Albireo except the yellow component is more golden and the blue component is more blue. It also has the added bonus that within a 1 degree field there are 3 other really nice yellow and blue color contrast doubles, it then gets even better because it's also right beside the Eta Carina Nebula and the Gem Cluster!

Cheers

Of course! Our biggest proud at the Northern Hemisphere - Albireo = even prettier at the southern hemisphere. Is there also a celestial object which is not(!) better there in the south? #findingahouse@thesouthernhemisphere

Hi,
I could rattle off a list, but getting back to basics, my favorite would have to be Alpha Centauri.
As well as being a magnificent double, it was the first double I ever saw as a thirteen-year-old through a 50mm TASCO Refractor back in the early 70’s. Seeing it (along with Jewel Box cluster and Omega Centauri) made me realize that there was more to astronomy than just looking at the Moon and Saturn, and started me off on my journey.
Its orbital period is around 80 years, one lifetime, so I’ve seen it widen right out then close in again and, if I’m lucky, I may just see one orbit.
Cheers,
Ian.
