These aren't extremely rare but you don't see nearly as many of 'em as the shorter versions of the original Naglers (except, of course, for the truly rare 11mm).

Seems like a really good deal, yes? $190 is what the 9mm pieces are usually priced. I'd expect a lot more for the 13mm. If I didn't have a 14mm Speers Waler that I was super happy with (and only cost around $100), I'd probably go for this Nagler.

They usually go for $200-$250, as do the very similar Meade 14UWA's. There's no picture; if it is the early, smoothside version I may wish I hadn't posted the link. Mine is the later (eyecup) version and I'm trying to convert back to the classics.

The 9mm is a terrific EP and the 13mm is at least as good. I've been making a little pile on the desk and hope to make time to do a little shootout between the 13mm original Nagler, the 12mm Type 2, the 12mm T4, the 11mm T6, and the Meade 14mm UWA.

Well, the Type I's have dropped to usually below $200 now that the T6's are out. I have seen the T6's usually going for $230-$240,and they are only $280 new....

Yes, it's amazing that current-model TV EP's regularly sell for 85% of new price (or more!). My rule is that if I can't save $50 or more I just buy new.

I don't think the T6's have affected sales of the larger EP's very much. Folks who like originals, T2's, T4's, and T5's aren't good customers for the very different T6's. I know there's a T6 around here somewhere that was acquired with shootout purposes in mind but it's not in the EP case because it's just not as comfortable to use as the "real" Naglers. I suppose they'd be OK for binoviewer use, but the compromises made to keep them small, light, and inexpensive put them outside my comfort range.

If one had a 9mm T1 and was looking for only two more eyepieces that could be used on virtually any scope irrespective of how short the f-ratio was, would the 12mm/13mm nagler be one of them?
I'm asking as I'm looking for a couple of good quality eyepieces. I have a 9mm T1 and although I wasn't a massive fan of it at the start, I've got to like it alot now. I'm thinking about getting a 27mm Pan for those low-power views but was wondering what's the best in-between eyepiece? Should I go for a 17mm T4 or a 12mm/13mm nagler?

If you like the 9mm original Nagler, you'd like any of these: 13mm original Nagler, 12mm Nagler T2, 16mm Nagler T2, 12mm Nagler T4, 14mm Meade UWA, 17mm Nagler T4.

The 17mm T4 may be the best of the list, but the 13mm original and the 14mm UWA are big favorites of mine. If you go with the 12-14mm range, you can add a 20mm T2 Nagler later!

Not if the Bank Manager has anything to say about it!

I was thinking about the 17mm T4 as it has generous eye relief which means I can leave my glasses on. On the other hand I can still use the 9mm T1 with the glasses on (only just!) but an extra few mm eye relief would be nice.

For eye relief, the T4's are the best of both worlds thanks to the Instajust feature. The 13mm original Nagler and the 14mm UWA have fairly generous eye relief but I dunno about using them with glasses. According to the new boss's website, the 14mm UWA (which is similar to the 13mm original Nagler) has one mm more of eye relief than the 8.8UWA, which is similar to the 9mm original Nagler.
