Browsing high point scientific, I noticed a new ZWO duo/air camera with the 585mc. I had been planning to get a 533mc pro along with the usual guide scope and camera and an asiair plus but this camera seems like something to consider. At only 999$, I would be saving hundreds compared to getting a guide scope, camera, the seperate asiair and the 533mc. Nonetheless, the camera seems like it might be too similar to my Sony A7III I've been using to upgrade and the much smaller sensor could fall short in some wider field nebula I'd like to capture (used with an SQA55).

What do you all think? Does anyone here have experience with both a 533 and the 585 and if so, how large of a difference does is there? Would the small guiding sensor lead to issues with tight filters in light polluted skies?

I have a 533 and I’m awaiting delivery next week of a 585 air to use with an Askar V and Carbonstar 150. I have high hopes….

Personally I would skip the 585 air and buy separate. On the classifieds here even you could get a 585mc pro, guide camera, guide scope, and an ASIAIR plus or mini for just a touch more. You lose a lot of flexibility by using their all-in-one solution.

You’re right it will struggle with wide field stuff since the sensor is so small.

I'd be nervous about having all my eggs in one basket.  If any one thig has a faiure...

I was also worried about guiding through narrow band filters but I've been hearing that the duos actually do just fine.

Setting up a mini pc is a bit of a task but once done, you have great flexibility to use any equipment you want.

I also have a duo and routinely guide with an optolong ultimate filter. I don’t have to speculate, but I do concede that an all in one has no upgrade path likely. I have the financial ability to accept that, and apart from three asiair plus versions, routinely use an “old” pro.

Just received a promotion email from Touptek. May be of your interest.

1300$ a 533mono+filter wheel+full set 1.25" filters + OAG + shipping + import taxes.

Not bad.

You can attach a separate ZWO guide camera to the 585 Air and it will recognize it.

But what happens when the power port fails?

I’ve never had that happen on cameras or asiairs and suspect abuse would be the issue.

Well, my understanding is that the guiding on the duo seems to work fine with filters on a long focal length 14 edge, so with your Focal length and FOV it shouldn’t be a problem. The  smaller 2.9 um pixel size is a slightly better match for sampling with your SQA55. On the flip side the FOV will be smaller with the 585, but your field is already pretty wide so you may not care. You can compare on Astronomy tools. Having said that I would still go for the 533 and separate gear
