Calling all experts! I picked up this equatorial mount tripod with a polar alignment scope, brass fittings, and steel legs. It's heavy and solid. The counterweight is one piece, not two. After replacing the batteries, the scope illuminates in red the reticle, which includes a portion of the Big Dipper. There is a blue letter A on one side, and missing a cap on the other side. Perhaps this is where the manufacturer name and model was. Could this be A for Orion Atlas? Missing the two slow motion knobs / flexible cables. Also looks like I can attach something beside the dovetail clamp. There's a hole for a bolt or something. Not sure. $21 score at my local Goodwill.

Can anyone help identify this mystery EQ mount and tripod?

Sure...its the Jinghua made clone {not Synta} that came with the Antares 127 and 152 OTA refractor packages back in 2004 to 2006...had one and sold it with a scope I sold back in 2005. Was okay and a hell of a deal for $21 at present.

Looks like you are right. I remember the Antares EQ5, but don’t ever recall seeing an A on one. Although, there were a number of iterations/color schemes over the years. Great find at $21.Sure...its the Jinghua made clone {not Synta} that came with the Antares 127 and 152 OTA refractor packages back in 2004 to 2006...had one and sold it with a scope I sold back in 2005.
