So as Cor mentioned in Mitchell's post from earlier we've been working on Wavesharp 3.0 which I've used to process these data from this morning.  Winds were at the limits and the seeing was not as good as yesterday morning but the results are too horrible.  I used the cutbox combined with a larger ROI to handle the winds and edge detection in AS!4 to scrub the frames that still had chopped edges.  These are 8% stacks of 20,000 frames.  180s captures for each stack.

 

First is the full cutbox.

Here is a second animation with a reduced ROI and resized to 400px.  It's a bit noisier as I decided to run this with only the Layer 1 denoise.  In both I've used the Median color balance option with: R = 39, G = 34 and B = 27.

Clicking on the images will bring them up in the gallery viewer at which point the apng's will animate.

Amazing. Not sure ive ever seen a moon come out from behind saturn so clearly - like a jupiter result.

 

Your collimation is pretty way out though, as im sure you realise!

Your collimation is pretty way out though, as im sure you realise!

In the first image yes as Saturn was well below 30 degrees still.  But I'm fairly certain that the flaring on Rhea is the result of the 180s capture times.  It's not a coincidence that it's elongated in exactly the direction of travel.  I set the collimation at 40 degrees and checked for flaring a couple of times between autocapture sequences.  It was as good as yesterday's imaging session.

Agreed. I’ve got data showing that as the altitude increased so did the collimation. Guess I’ll need to use the mirror locks. I worry I’m the summer about introducing stresses on the mirror by leaving them engaged.
