At 16h 16.7m +67° 14', with magnitudes of 8.77, 10.88, at a separation of 64.5" in P.A. 14°, ENG 57 is an easy split at 40X in my 20cm reflector, as it would be in most any telescope at low powers. The spectral classifications of the components - M1V and M3V - presented as red and purplish-red in my scope at 143X. The details of this easy pair is what makes it interesting - to me, anyway. lol.gif

No. 1 - This double is physical, according to the Notes section of the WDS.

No. 2 - As noted above the B component is the variable EW Dra - a type BY variable of small amplitude.

No. 3 - The A and B combo are high proper motion stars, at a distance of 35 light years. Visitors, so stop in and say hello while you can. wavey.gif

That's indeed an interesting pair, thanks for sharing the details. I just checked the Gaia data for both components, and their calculated spatial separation is 870 ± 311 AU. The position angles of their proper motions and their velocities are also almost identical. This pair is a CPM pair, and a rather high probability of a physical connection is given; however, there is no entry in the Sixth Catalog of Orbits of the WDS. Based on their distances and absolute magnitudes, both stars have significantly lower masses compared to the Sun.
