While driving home from the observatory tonight, a bright light out of the corner of my left eye caught my attention.  I turned and it was a very bright bolide, traveling downward through Scorpius, between Antares and beta Scorpii (roughly across where M80 would be) at perhaps a 45 degree angle toward the horizon.  The time was approximately 10:21 PM EDT.

Did anyone else in E Tennessee or W North Carolina by chance see it?

Not trying to be political, but the way the world is today, I hope it's only a Bolide.

I was sitting in my apartment in Omaha when the great midwestern Bolide in December 2016 (2017?) lit up the sky.  Being close to Offutt AFB, there's always the slightest worry in the back of your head...

Ah yes, the new Chinese Bolide missile warhead. Pretends to be a mere meteor until it's too late to take any action against it...

Not a bolide, but I remember trying to get to sleep in my condo north of NYC around 1984, at the peak of the Cold War. First lightning strike of a thunderstorm was a big one on a tall tree about 30m from my window. I briefly thought a nuke had gone off (really...). A huge tree was literally reduced to splinters.

If I had stayed at a MHAA monthly Star Party a few minutes longer back around '92, I could have witnessed a magnificent bolide. As it was, I was driving out and facing west (as it came overhead from the east) and only caught the very tail end (glowing smoke trail). Such is life.

Yes, that was the event-- I reported it so my location is one of the reported observations.

Here is a heat map (of observers) that also shows the direction of the meteor:
