I have a new 10" Schmidt-Newt 1016/f4 on the way and it comes with a 26mm Plossel. I would like some eyepieces and found this eyepiece and filter kit from Celestron at the link here
and wondered if it was worth the $$? Thanks, Joel

I think if you do a seach on this subject you'll come up with more info than you can handle. For my part, I've owned 3 sets of these and feel they're a great set of starter to intermediate eyepieces.

Yep, it's a good kit. I got one for my kid, and liked it so much, I got one for me!

I did not like the selection of EP's that came with the kit. The 32mm and 15mm are ok, but, did not like the 9mm, 6mm, or 4mm.

I haven't had that much time to try mine out, but I like that it has a bunch of filters in it. I used the moon filter right away, and also played around with some of the others just for fun. I used the 32mm to look at comet Neat, and I got a pretty good view with that one. The 15mm I have also used with some success. I haven't had much of a chance to try the others out.

I forgot to add, it's a pretty nice case too. By the way, you may want to check out other dealers on price.

I have found it as cheap as $117 with shipping through Amazon. I saw a bigger set with a laser collimater on another forum with an Ebay starting bid of $300. Decisions, decisions.

What else is in the bigger set and what kind of laser collimater? The whole of the kit is that it's an inexpensive way of getting you started. After that, you start obtain eyepieces and other accessories to your needs and your preference. More EPs don't necessarily mean better at this point, unless you know they are just what you needed.

Here's the link to the bigger package. I know I will need a collimater, I don't know if a newt will come with one from the factory. If the stuff is good, I may spring for the bigger set.

THe 32mm Plossl from the kit is a pretty nice EP. I have a pair of them that I use with my Denks. The filters are good, also.

Same here John. The price is worth it just for the case, the filters, and the 32mm EP. Additionally, though, it serves as a great learning tool.
