Yes. When pointing due south from here (34 deg north), I point to where the celestial equator crosses the meridian, which is fairly high in the sky.
Then I point at the celestial equator to the east or west (either works), as close to the horizon as practical.
In the old style of drift alignment, you don't make a "V" with the camera, you just watch how the star drifts over time and adjust accordingly. That might work for you.
