Any idea why there's an infrared emitter on the top of the Meade handset?

Just noticed that all the Meade Audiostar handsets have what looks to be an infrared emitter at the very top of the handset, in the same location where it would be on your TV remote control.  I can't see any use for this.  Any ideas on what this is for?

If you say, "for future use", I checked Weasner's site, and that's what he said, too . . . way back in 2002.  Since Meade hasn't done anything with them in all this time, why are they still there 17 years later?

My Audiostar HC has a red LED on top for use as a flashlight.  The 0 button turns it on/off.

Cool!  Thanks!  I'll have to try that out.

Never realised there was one there, well think I have seen it just never thought about it.

This means that I will have to try it out next time the 105 is powered up.

There isn't one on the #494 handset just in case anyone askes - well there isn't on mine.

Yeah, it’s a red led “flashlight.”
