I was looking at a celestron firstscope 80 from what I found on the web was I believe model 21075 on the label it said made for celestron in Japan I’m trying to find more specific is it worth getting

They are excellent telescopes. I enjoyed mine and would heartily recommend one to anyone starting out in the hobby. They are also great grab-and-go scopes. Mine had one of the best ~3” achromatic objectives I have seen. For one that is complete and in very good condition, expect to pay around $250 to $300.

I had one.  I paid roughly $125.00 just for the tube.  Excellent scope.

I sold it because in all honesty a modern 100 f/9 ed does better, but it is 3x more  money,  and needs a bigger mount.

If I found another one at that price I would pick it up just to save it from the dumpster.

It is a scope worthy of love.

From the pics it’s looks a little dirty it has the triangle base plate for tripod and a triangle storage container

I bought one up here in Canada several years ago for $100 C and it is a great scope with pin point views, scope is Vixen built for at least Celestron ! I exchanged the stock 1.25” focuser for a 2” GSO Crayford from Agena Astro for less than $150 US, it slipped right in in about 20 min. It now rides on a Vixen Porta II mount. I would never ever give it up !  My advice is grab it quick or it will be gone forever !  Clear C80 skizes !

It’s a standard crown/flint Fraunhofer achromatic objective. But they consistently have a very good figure and polish.

It was a 6" F/5 Newt on a Super Polaris mount. I had 2 of them and both were very sharp. All the Vixen made stuff that Celestron sold from around late 1984 until the early 90's was very good. Then around late 1996 Celestron cheaped out with the China made stuff and it was a big step down.

It also was a well made scope in the 1980's. Not sure i remember what mount it came on, but the optics were super.

I now have the one that Terra had in her picture, and it showed me more detail on Mars last time than several larger scopes that I looked through. You occasionally see the OTA's on the Japan made scopes by Vixen on CN for around $125, just the OTA, but it is well worth it. They will ride very nicely on the astro tech voyager, or the porta 11 mount, just in case you do not get one with the mount included.

Same optics really, are all sharp. Just the black came later and the Orange is more rare.

The Firstscope C80 on the Polaris mount is a first rate setup. You would not regret buying it one bit. Here's a shot of mine.

 

 

The Celestron C60 is a fun little grab and go scope on an Alt-az mount, also made in Japan but not by Vixen and no where near the same quality as a C80. I have one of those too, but don't have a picture of it.

Actually there's a bunch of different 60mm Celestrons.

Orange, Black, Blue/Gray available in Alt-Az and GEM with too many variations to say or keep track of.

Probably the most common was the blue/gray alt-az Cometron CO-60, but even some of those came on a Polaris mount (CO-60E).

Here's my Vixen made C60 (OTA only), on a Unitron mount and it might just be the best 60mm I have.

This model came standard with a 1.25" visual back. A .965" VB is on it in this photo

because eye pieces and diagonals were being swapped with other scopes during a shoot out.
