Yes we are now two "astro-van-lifers"

This is maybe of valuable interest for some of you.

Watercolor - in the middle of nowhere

Because of this pandemic period, I plan to change a little bit my way of life.  With my wife we like to travel. In the past I had an old nice sailing boat, S.Y.Aquarellia.  Today, with the old age coming, and the need to still organize more voyage, we decide to buy a new van.  To combine travel, comfort, astronomy and painting, we choose the one you can see in the next images.  No pub here I suppose…

IMG_7139.JPG

About the comfort.  With this van we can choose one of the two double beds, one in the van, the second one very comfortable is located in the roof tent, open electrically.  We have heather, water, toilets, a shower (yes but outside) a full kitchen with 2 gas, a big fridge and a lot of storages.  But on top of all of that, there is a special place initially made for skis.

IMG_7612.JPG

Of course, I directly change the destination for my telescopes.  I can store 2 small refractors plus a binocular, a 102/1000 and a 75/400 with an IOTA camera, an equatorial EQ4 mount with alpha 12V drive and a lot of material and papers for astro-sketching and watercolors, not only for astronomy - hé.

Our van decoration

Now our home is where we park it, and what a garden!  We travel already 22 days and 22 nights, all off road, all out of lights.  Of course, this is a sort of minimalist way of life, but after sailing more than five years on board of Aquarellia, that was not a real issue.

IMG_6912.JPG

However, however, today … with the deep confinement here in France, we are blocked home, and this is not a mobile home !

But for the future I hope that this type of mobile astronomy is maybe positively influencing some of you.

I'll continue to post some other images here after soon.

Each days, I made a sketch about the sun's white light to define the Sun spot number.

If there are spot's I like to make a sketch with witch I made the final counting.

We use the  small refractor to observe the birds too, after astronomers we are birdwatchers too, this is another miracle of our univers.

Astronomy at night, hè

IMGP3157_l.jpg

I own a small camera to follow the astroidal occultations, I mean the stars occulted by an asteroid, same type of manipulation for star special occultation by the moon.  To do that I have a dedicated material, small computer, a IOTA system, camera and GPS loink to store on each image the precise time.

20200914-c-t_ll.jpg

Sketching the moon far from everything is a nice job too.

Here I was concentrate on the Regiomontanus central peak

For night sketching, I feel pastel drawing more easy.

Oui! Yes I do. Thank you for sharing all of these astro drawings in your explanation. It both makes a solid point and keeps the post appropriate to the forum. Well done on all!

You have been beyond busy. Tremendous watercolors and sketching images. All of this is so impressive. Thank you so much for posting all of this here.

Wonderful works, and the mobile observatory is just that.

What a truly wonderful post Michel. I am in awe of your decision to sketch the stars from you and your wife's mobile observatory. What a wonderful way to spend time together. Hats off to you Sir!

Clear skies

Darren.

Thank you so much to you all.

Today the pandemic is blocking us without being able to leave the house. It's just allowed for shopping and doctor's appointments ... I hope a vaccine will set us free quickly!

Fortunately my little observatory is in my garden not too polluted by light ...

Clear and virus free sky to you all !

Michel
