A lot of theology books. I have quite a few on the topics of astronomy. The past year I have been subscribing to electronic books on Kindle on my 10 inch Tablet. I like reading on the Tablet because I can adjust the type size, brightness and so on. If I use a book for reference, I like to have a hard copy. If I am just going to read a book, I line the books on my Tablet.

Another famous quote: "When I get a little money, I buy books; and if any is left, I buy food and clothes", by Erasmus of Rotterdam. It would be very difficult to live by that principle, indeed!

Bookshelf space has become seriously limited for me, so I'm forced to really mull over any book purchase these days. In order to make room for new books, sometimes I get rid of older ones that I don't want any more by leaving them on a street bench or by slipping them among other books of my local municipal library (which doesn't accept donations), hoping that somebody would read them. I have a bit of everything in my personal library, and a big portion of it is a decent collection of astronomy books.

Thanks to second-hand online bookstores such as Abe or Waterstones, access to foreign-language cheap used books in good condition has become very easy. I buy way more second-hand books than new ones.

As for e-books and kindles, I'm not interested in them. There's something unique about holding the physical thing and something beautiful about a bookshelf full of books. Besides, it's been scientifically proved that readers remember printed books much better than electronic ones.

Most of my books have lots of pictures.  I usually read all the picture captions first, and tehn go back and read the book.

On a personal side almost all books purchase in last 10 years were astronomy related.

20+ years ago almost all the books I purchased were aircraft/aerospace related.

I usually buy books about general observing, cosmology and astrophysics. I'm also collecting antiquities but my funds are very limited, so that's the minority.

Here's a simple list of my astronomy-related books, it's not complete, about 40 titles are missing because I'm a lazy guy. http://magictron.com/ba/books.cgi

Most books I buy are vintage and of a technical nature, and I love old astronomy books of course.

On another thread awhile back, which I can't seem to locate, I mentioned a 300 year old astro related book that has been in my family for a long time. It was kept with other books which I was not allowed to touch when I was young. All but forgotten in safe storage, these books came to me after my mother passed away at age 96.

Thought it might be of interest, and especially to Mr.Townsend,  the book is titled........

" Astro - Theology "  by  W. Derham  dated: 1715

There are several Astronomical charts which have survived, still intact; here are some photos.

Edit: I found that the book (minus charts) has been digitized and is available to read on Wikipedia, along with information about the life of William Derham and his discovery of several star clusters.

i have a large library, both astronomical (see here) and wide ranging in many other areas.

my criteria for acquiring a book are specific but hard to put into words: anything that seems to offer reliable knowledge or rewarding performance. my criteria for keeping a book is simply that it's unique of its kind. so i have burton's "anatomy of melancholy" and marquis' "archy and mehitabel" for the same reasons that i have partridge's "origins", guthrie's "history of greek philosophy", the loeb version of thucydides, the library of america editions of the constitutional debate and nabokov's novels, gombrowicz's "ferdydurke" and rabelais, proust in the original french, darwin, e.o. wilson and dawkins' "selfish gene," most of conan doyle and all of charles fort.

my criteria for keeping a book is that i find it rewarding five years after i've bought it. five years seems to be a good point for reappraisal; i've sent many, many books to the charity bins. even so, i have so many books they are stacked on the floor of my office and overflow in the bookshelves of our mountain vacaction house.

I have every issue of Astronomy Magazine every published - #1 thru current - and I'm paid ahead thru March 2022 (don't ask).

I started collecting astronomy books because the library never had what I wanted.  I had to put them on a spreadsheet once I had about 75 because I started to purchase what I already owned.  Now all are on a spreadsheet with author, ISBN10, ISBN13, publication date, Subject, etc., so it can be sorted in various manners.  I have multiple copies of a couple of the titles so one can be a desktop reference and the other is in the bag that goes outside with the telescope.

I won't lie and say I've read all of these - but it's nice to read & re-read those I want -  and to have the others for quick-reference whenever I need them.  Several are autographed by the author, and the two Clyde Tombaugh books are autographed by Clyde.

Recently finished 'The Heavens Proclaim' - Astronomy and the Vatican edited by  Guy Consolmagno S.j

Bought it at a local library sale. Good science read, has a lot to say about how and why the Vatican is interested in astronomy.

Pretty much anything by Dava Sobel. She has a background in astronomy, psychology and is one amazing author. "Galileo's Daughter" is probably her most famous book, followed by "Longitude" which is about the Longitude Act of 1714 and the first chronometers vs. the lunar distance method. I just started "A More Perfect Heaven" which is about Copernicus and his struggle to publish "On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres." Sobel has also written a book called "The Planets" and... well you get the idea. Did I mention she's an extremely entertaining and skilled writer?

Anyone who has a slight interested in either astronomy or history, bust especially those who enjoy both, will not be able to put her books down.
