So I have been imaging a bit with a hyperstar on my edge 11 and am ready to start guiding for a bit longer exposures.

Question is I have a CGEM dx mount and a ST80 refractor and QHY 5l ii for the guiding.

I've seen all kinds of info on cabling potentially damaging the mount if not set up correctly. Can anyone send me in the right direction for which cable to use.

I'm capturing with maxim DL and an atik 460

Will I also need to get the cable to interface the computer with the mount?

Thanks in advance and I will post some pictures when I get better, still a bit rough.

As long as you plug the cable into the right port on the mount, you are good.

Yes, you will need to plug the guide camera into the computer as well. This is where the "brains" of guiding occurs, usually with PHD. The cable from the camera to mount just relays commands.

Routing wise, just make sure the things don't get tangled when the mount slews.

So would the below two cables suffice?

For Computer

For QHY to Mount

Thanks,

To connect the QHY to the computer, you need a standard USB A-B cable. Make sure the cable is rated for USB 2.0 Hi-Speed, such as this one: http://www.amazon.co...t/dp/B00004Z5M1

The ST-4 cable in your second link is exactly what you want to go from camera to mount. It looks like a normal phone cable, but it is not the same.

I am surprised the camera did not come with either. (my Lodestar had both)

However, there is a third link, and that is from the mount to the computer. For that you do need the RS-232 you linked, plus a RS-232 to USB adapter such as this one: http://www.amazon.co...ref=pd_sxp_f_pt

This plugs into the bottom of the Celestron hand controller, which then plugs into the HC port on the mount as normal.
