One of my little Zeiss Telementors on the Zeiss eq. mount; or maybe a Questar? Overall, for the trip and being behind the wheel, I'll take the little sport model. Actually, now that I think of it, the little Unitron 128 with its fully loaded Unihex is a thing of joy! It's a lot of fun to use and quite small and light (and even so, the eq. mount is extremely smooth and stable). Its hard to decide! :)

Tough question.

Questar or Quantum perhaps. Maybe any Unitron on eq mount. OLD Zeiss refractors, not Telemator (sorry, I don't find them attractive at all).

Just my opinion, and I may be wrong.

I remember those ads, and the Audi ad:

4 cylinda too small, 6 cylinda too big, the new 5 cylinda Audi

I'm going to say Celestron's orange C14 because you just sit in a comfy plastic lawn chair and you have a hand box to move the telescope in both axis electrically, thats pretty sweet.

I'm going to interpret it as "driving pleasure" or "motoring enjoyment", and in that spirit, why not write up a road test of your classic? ("my Unitron 128 really excels on those tight, curvy star hops thru Cygnus; straight-line speed is not its forte, as it is an f/15 telescope"). After all, isn't the vicarious element a big part of what happens here? I can vicariously enjoy all those classics presented in the photos, but something is lacking; and that 'something' might very well be the subjective experience of using the equipment.

I see a number of scopes that are pleasurable for viewing a single object, parked along the side of the road at a view point..  But for a scope that is pleasurable when driving around the night sky, it's mighty difficult to beat the Genesis.. 4 inch F/5.. A nice flat 4.7 degree TFoV..  that's a nice driving machine.

Once again I have to vote for my 9" Clark. The best combination of optics, presence, history and nostalgia I can think of.

In the 50mm tabletop catagory, I would nominate the Bushnell Sky Rover.

Since Fahrvergnugen means "Pleasure while traveling" I vote for a couple of telescopes that were designed for just that purpose. The first is a "Clark Type T" from the 1920's.. It is an all inclusive 3" f/10 scope that fits in a box that was "small enough to be strapped to the running board of an automobile or carried by hand to a convenient observation point".

Enjoy the pictures,

Dan
